Founded in 2018, Ocean Bottle empowers individuals to have a direct and transparent impact where it counts; at the source. For every Ocean Bottle sold, 1000 ocean-bound plastic bottles (11.4 kg) are collected from the 10 rivers where 90% of plastic travels into the oceans. Together with our partners Plastic Bank we put a value on plastic helping alleviate people from poverty in the communities surrounding these 10 rivers. Collectors are paid 3x the market rate and can exchange plastic for food, healthcare, tech, tuition and microfinance all via blockchain technology. Currently, this system operates in Haiti, Indonesia and The Philippines making recycling accessible and of value. To date, we have funded the collection of 193,562.94 kg of plastic, the equivalent to 17,027,000.4 plastic bottles.
