AI Ethics Debate
05.02.2020
05-02-2020 12:00 AM 05-02-2020 12:00 AM Europe/Paris AI Ethics Debate While the technology promises, among other things, to increase productivity by efficiently managing mundane, repetitive tasks; improve the quality of medical diagnoses through better pattern matching; and reduce operational costs, concerns are growing of a darker side of AI. Recent news stories have brought our attention to the widespread use of facial recognition by both public and private entities and the potential invasion of privacy; predictive algorithms are being used to make hiring decisions and in some cases to mete out justice, sometimes without human input. AI-driven, autonomous vehicles, medical devices and weapons are no longer the stuff of science fiction. As AI has spread into so many corners of our businesses and daily lives, the need for an ethical framework for our use of the technology has become increasingly important. While it would be an oversimplification to say that we must choose between privacy and safety, or fairness and efficiency, it's essential that we all contribute to a discussion of the issues. To that end, WiTT's February 2020 event will feature a debate on the ethics of AI. Annette Nabavi, WiTT Director and Non-Executive Director, Maintel Holdings plc, will chair the panel. Our speakers will include: Amy King, Co-Founder / R&D Director / Business Psychologist, People Matter; Liberty Foreman, CEO and Co-Founder, DynamXMedical; Emily Dorotheou, Associate, Mishcon de Reya; and Ivana Bartoletti, Women Leading in AI. We will announce other speakers soon. The evening will run as follows: 6:00-7:00pm: Drinks and networking 7:00-8:00pm: Panel discussion 8:00-8:15: Networking and event close We would like to give our sincerest thanks to Mishcon de Reya for hosting this event. We hope you'll join us for what promises to be a wide-ranging and stimulating discussion on this important topic.
